Medical Association will not ease specialization process for 'tarefeiros'

The Ordem dos Médicos (Medical Association) has rejected requests to facilitate the professional specialization of 'tarefeiros' (freelance medical service providers). These professionals must now meet existing criteria or enter the standard internal residency program for emergency medicine if they wish to join the permanent SNS hospital staff.

Why it mattersIf you are a freelance doctor ('tarefeiro') working in the public system, there will be no shortcut to specialization, meaning you must follow the formal, standard path to secure a permanent contract within the SNS.
