New regularization and deportation rules take effect this Friday
New rules ending the possibility of obtaining a residence permit without a prior visa (specifically for vocational training and having a minor child in the country) take effect on Friday, September 11. Additionally, the 'Voluntary Abandonment Notifications' (NAV) are replaced by mandatory departure orders; failing to comply may lead to detention and deportation.
Why it mattersIf you are in Portugal without a visa and were planning to use vocational training or parenthood of a minor as a pathway to residency, these options are now closed; furthermore, if you have received a voluntary departure notification, you now face stricter enforcement and potential detention.
