Government leaves strike negotiations to CP management

The government confirmed it will not intervene in the strike called by the SFRCI union for Friday 30 October, stating negotiations are the responsibility of the CP administration. The rail operator is working on publishing 2025-2026 salary agreements and analyzing compensation for overtime and holiday work. CP has warned of potential service disruptions across its network between Thursday 29 October and Saturday 31 October.

Why it matters

If you plan to travel by train (Alfa Pendular, Intercidades, or regional services) between 29 October and 31 October, expect significant disruptions and consider alternative transport; you are entitled to a full refund or exchange if your travel is affected.

CP warns of train service disruptions starting Thursday due to strike

CP - Comboios de Portugal has announced service disruptions from Thursday, 29 October, through Saturday, 31 October, due to a 24-hour strike called by the SFRCI union for Friday, 30 October. Over one hundred union representatives protested on Tuesday, 27 October, against the 2027 State Budget proposal, characterizing it as harmful to public services.
