"This budget does not serve the Portuguese": on the day of the 2027 State Budget debate, protesters demonstrate in front of the Assembly of the Republic
Over one hundred union representatives protested on Tuesday, 27 October, against the 2027 State Budget proposal, characterizing it as harmful to public services. The union leadership is demanding a minimum salary increase of 150 euros (not less than 15%) for all public sector workers and a meal allowance increase to 13 euros, with proposed changes to take effect on 1 January 2027. Union leadership indicated that a public administration strike is currently being discussed as a potential form of protest if negotiations with the government do not progress.
