Coimbra wants automatic access control for new streets in the city centre
Starting September 10, access to Avenida Fernão de Magalhães (Central axis) and Rua da Sofia in Coimbra will be restricted to public transport and authorized vehicles (residents and merchants) to accommodate the new 'metrobus' system. Initially, access will be enforced by security forces, with plans to transition to an automatic license plate recognition system similar to one currently being installed in other downtown streets.
Why it mattersIf you are a resident or business owner who drives in downtown Coimbra, be aware that access to these major streets will be restricted from September 10, initially managed by police, with automated enforcement coming later.
