Amnesty International wants Portugal to refuse the use of Lajes to [Marco] Rubio

Amnesty International has called on the Portuguese government to explicitly tell the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, during his official visit to Lisbon this Thursday, 2026-10-08, that Lajes Air Base cannot be used for operations related to the conflict in Iran. The organization argues that continued use of the base may violate international law, and notes that the Public Prosecutor's Office opened an inquiry last Friday, 2026-10-02, following a complaint regarding the base's legality.
