University of Évora students protest against tuition fee increase plan

Around 50 students gathered outside the University of Évora's main building on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, to protest against proposed tuition fee hikes and demanding better student housing and social support conditions. Under the State Budget proposal for 2027, undergraduate tuition fees—frozen since 2020—are set to be updated according to the inflation rate starting from the 2027/2028 academic year. Similar protests also took place in Coimbra and Covilhã.
