The Fénix Rehabilitation Center in Ourém has hosted 50 Ukrainian soldiers for recovery treatment since July 2024. The current group of 10 soldiers and their families arrived on 4 October and will remain until 21 October, the maximum period they are authorized to be outside Ukraine. Starting in January 2027, the center will also offer 40 beds for continuous care to the general Portuguese population.

The Association of the Blind and Partially Sighted of Portugal (ACAPO) has launched a campaign and filed complaints with the government, the Ombudsman, and the food safety authority (ASAE) regarding the 'Volta' deposit-refund system. The association argues the system is discriminatory because it relies on visual identification and operation, preventing blind and low-vision individuals from autonomously recovering the 10-cent deposit paid per plastic or metal container.

The Faro-based charity AIPAR held a gathering on October 11 to celebrate reaching twenty certified foster families and to provide a support network for them. Foster care in Portugal is a temporary measure for children removed from their birth families; individuals or couples over 25 living in Portugal are eligible to apply, receiving training, support, and a monthly allowance.
