Three in four European pilots report 'microsleeps' in the cockpit

A study of 7,198 pilots across Europe, including 509 operating for Portuguese airlines, found that over 76% experienced at least one involuntary 'microsleep' while on duty in the four weeks prior to the survey. Significant portions of pilots report continuing to fly while fatigued due to fears of professional retaliation, with 29% of Portuguese-based pilots admitting to flying while unfit rather than reporting fatigue.
