Taxi Federation says new fare rules maintain regional imbalance
The new taxi pricing regulation published on Tuesday takes effect on October 23, 2026, giving operators 90 days to adapt their taximeters until mid-January 2027. The Portuguese Taxi Federation (FPT) states that economic proposals were rejected and a 9% reduction rate is being applied instead of the announced 9% increase, resulting in estimated fare jumps of about 25% in Lisbon and 15 in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, alongside a 16% revenue drop in the Algarve.
