SATA Group activates contingency plan due to handling strike
SATA has activated a contingency plan following a strike notice issued by SITAVA and SINTAC unions for SATA Handling workers, running from 21 October to 3 November 2026. The strike takes place daily in two blocks: from 07:30 to 10:30 local time between 21 and 27 October, and from 16:00 to 19:00 local time between 28 October and 3 November. The action may cause delays and disruptions to SATA Air Açores and Azores Airlines flights, though passengers can rebook without penalty for travel between 18 October and 10 November 2026.
Why it mattersIf you are flying with SATA Air Açores or Azores Airlines between 21 October and 3 November, expect delays and operational changes due to daily handling strikes, but you can change your booking without fees for alternative dates outside the strike window.
