Bica is built to know as little about you as possible. You don’t need an account, and we never sell data or use it for advertising.

Who is responsible

Bica.now, an independent project based in Lisbon, Portugal, is responsible for your data under EU data protection law (GDPR). For anything about your data, email hello@bica.now.

What stays on your device

Your topics, region, alert settings, saved updates and display settings are kept in your browser, along with a count of your visits (so Bica only suggests adding it to your home screen once you have come back). None of this is sent to us. Clearing your browser data for bica.now removes it.

What we measure

To learn whether Bica is useful, we record:

the pages you view, and the website or campaign link that brought you to Bica;
what you do with updates: opening one, reading the original, sharing, saving, and thumbs up or down with the reason you pick;
the topics you tap and the words you type into Bica’s search;
whether Bica is installed on your home screen.

Your browser keeps a random ID, in a cookie and in local storage, so we can tell whether people come back. It isn’t linked to your name, email or any account, and we don’t combine it with data from other websites. We don’t record your screen, use advertising trackers, build profiles of you, or sell data.

Reporting a mistake

When you tap 👎 and then “Something’s wrong”, we receive only which update you flagged, nothing about you.

Your IP address

Like any website, our host and our analytics service receive your IP address when your browser connects. We don’t use it to identify you. Our host keeps it in short-lived technical logs for security and fault-finding.

If you email us

We use your address and message only to reply. Email to hello@bica.now is forwarded by ImprovMX and kept in our Gmail inbox.

Services we use

PostHog: analytics, with data stored in the EU.
Vercel: hosting, and visit counts that use no cookies. Vercel is based in the US and covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Supabase: Bica’s database of news updates. It holds nothing about readers.
ImprovMX and Google (Gmail): only if you email us.

Why we're allowed to

Our legitimate interest in keeping Bica working and secure, and in knowing which updates help readers, done in a way that has minimal impact on you (GDPR, Article 6(1)(f)).

How long we keep it

Analytics data is kept for up to 12 months, then deleted. Emails are kept only as long as needed to deal with them.

Your rights

You can ask what data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to our analytics, by emailing hello@bica.now.

If anything here changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
