Tax authority notifies landlords to terminate rental contracts that ended years ago
The tax authority (AT) has emailed 33,381 landlords whose rental contracts are marked as active but expired before April 1, 2026. Recipients must verify the status of these contracts on the Portal das Finanças and, if necessary, communicate the termination or correction by September 30, 2026.
Why it mattersIf you are a landlord who received this email, you must check the status of your rental contracts on the Portal das Finanças by September 30, 2026; if you have already terminated a contract that the system incorrectly shows as active, you should verify that the termination was correctly recorded to avoid potential tax issues.
