Scammers fake car damage to steal bank cards
A scam involving fake minor car accidents has affected over 50 people in the last month, resulting in over 200,000 euros stolen. Fraudsters approach drivers—often elderly—claiming they caused damage, and use a mobile payment terminal to demand a small 'repair' fee, tricking the victim into entering their PIN and swapping their bank card for a dummy one.
Why it mattersIf you are approached by strangers claiming you caused minor damage to their vehicle, do not pay them on the spot, do not enter your PIN into a mobile terminal they provide, and do not let them handle your bank card; this is a sophisticated scam targeting residents across the country.
