Railway traffic suspended between Marco de Canaveses and Régua until March

Rail traffic on the Douro Line between Marco de Canaveses and Peso da Régua is suspended for modernization works until 24 March 2027, with service resuming on 25 March 2027. CP is providing replacement buses starting on Tuesday 3 November, including direct buses between Caíde and Régua and local buses stopping at intermediate stations, though bicycles, scooters, and wheelchairs are not permitted on the buses.

Why it matters

If you travel on the Douro Line between Marco de Canaveses and Régua, trains are suspended until 24 March 2027 and you must use replacement buses starting on Tuesday 3 November, keeping in mind that bicycles and wheelchairs are not allowed on them.

Portugal expects strengthening of air connections and tourist routes with Venezuela

Economy Minister Manuel Castro Almeida expressed interest during an official visit to Caracas in expanding bilateral air connectivity between Portugal and Venezuela, suggesting that Lufthansa's acquisition of a stake in TAP could relaunch possibilities for new routes. Inter-metropolitan pass delayed to March 2027

The national pass will now launch in two stages starting in March 2027, three months later than previously planned. In the first phase, a combined pass for the Lisbon and Porto metropolitan areas will be introduced for an additional 10 euros, followed by the full national pass. Additionally, the new Lisbon Metro circular line is expected to enter service in the first quarter of 2027.

When can honking your horn result in a fine?

Following drivers being fined in Lisbon for honking in support of protesters, the Automobile Club of Portugal (ACP) clarified that the Highway Code restricts horn use to cases of imminent danger or, outside urban areas, to warn of an overtaking manoeuvre or poor visibility. Using the horn to protest or express discontent is not a valid reason and carries fines ranging from 60 to 300 euros, depending on the circumstances. Additionally, article 23 stipulates that light signals should be used instead of sound signals at night within urban areas.
