Minister of Labour advances with 'silent' mini-reform of labour law

The Parliament has approved an extension to parental leave and the introduction of a 'continuous workday' (jornada contínua) for private sector employees. From 1 January 2027, parental leave will be paid at 100% for the first five months; if shared, it extends to six months at 100%, otherwise dropping to 83% for the final month. Additionally, workers with children under 12, or with dependents having disabilities or chronic illnesses, gain the right to a continuous workday, allowing for a shorter lunch break and a reduction in working hours of up to one hour, subject to employer agreement.
