European Union prepares new rules for driving licence renewals

The EU has approved reforms introducing digital driving licences valid across all member states and standardizing administrative validity periods to 15 years for cars and motorcycles, or 10 years where the licence also serves as an ID. Professional drivers of heavy goods and passenger vehicles will have a five-year renewal cycle, and a minimum two-year probationary period will apply to new drivers across the bloc.
