Commission for Gender Equality to have a record budget of 22.9 million euros

The government has announced a 235% budget increase for the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG) for 2027, totaling 22.93 million euros. This shift transitions funding for the national support networks for victims of domestic violence and human trafficking from EU funds to permanent state tax revenue. New services to be implemented include a 24/7 free, multilingual national helpline and three new specialized psychological support units for young victims in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

Public Prosecution service calls for further evidence in case of detained protesters in Porto

The Public Prosecution service decided that further evidence needs to be gathered in the case of the seven housing protesters detained in Porto on Sunday 1 November, sending the case to a standard summary trial process instead of an expedited one. Their lawyer stated that this means a trial will not take place immediately and leaves open the possibility of the case being dismissed following further inquiries.
