"Zero Rate at the Wheel" campaign on the road starting Tuesday

The National Road Safety Authority (ANSR), PSP, and GNR are launching the "Taxa Zero ao Volante" awareness and enforcement campaign from Tuesday 3 November until Sunday 9 November. The operation focuses on detecting driving under the influence of alcohol, with joint enforcement actions scheduled across the national territory, including the Azores and Madeira.

Fatigue: three out of four pilots take 'naps' in the cockpit

A study by the European Cockpit Association found that 75% of European airline pilots have experienced microsleeps in the cockpit, with nearly one-quarter of pilots admitting to flying while fatigued instead of declaring themselves unfit. Among 509 Portuguese pilots surveyed, 29.1% reported flying while fatigued, while 25.5% stated they had declared themselves unfit due to exhaustion.

More than 400 people have died on the roads in ten months

Between January and the end of October 2026, there were 411 road fatalities, an increase of 41 compared to the same period in 2025. Serious injuries also rose by 121, totaling 2,523, while total accidents increased by 5.1%. Data indicates that while radar enforcement has increased, direct police monitoring on roads decreased by 7.3%.
