UGT: Mário Mourão asks Montenegro for a 1,000 euro minimum wage and strengthened collective bargaining and unions
The secretary-general of the UGT challenged the Prime Minister this Saturday to negotiate a wage enhancement agreement within the Social Concertation, demanding that any future changes to labour laws must strengthen collective bargaining and the role of trade unions. Mário Mourão specifically called for the national minimum wage to be raised to 1,000 euros.
Why it mattersWhile this is currently a negotiation proposal rather than a law, any eventual agreement reached at the Social Concertation could lead to future changes in national minimum wages or labour regulations affecting all workers in Portugal.
