Temperatures drop 9 degrees in Lisbon

Maximum temperatures will drop between Friday 16 October and Saturday 17 October in the central and southern regions, notably in Lisbon where the thermometer falls from 31ºC to 22ºC. IPMA also forecasts rain showers in the interior districts of Guarda, Castelo Branco, and Portalegre on Saturday 17 October, before temperatures rise again on Sunday 18 October to 26ºC in Lisbon, Santarém, and Leiria, while Porto drops to 23ºC.

Why it matters

If you are in Lisbon or the central and southern regions, expect a sharp drop of up to 9 degrees on Saturday 17 October before warmer weather returns on Sunday 18 October.

Satisfaction with primary health care reform drops to 26%

Satisfaction among Family Health Unit (USF) coordinators with the primary health care reform fell to 26% from 31,9% the previous year, while dissatisfaction rose to 46,8%. The findings come from a National Association of Family Health Units report published in Gondomar, based on responses from 541 coordinators collected between 19 June and 4 August, pointing to issues such as IT failures, heavier patient lists, staff shortages, and heavy administrative burdens.

Nine in ten health centres report three or more IT failures in a year

A study by the National Association of Family Health Units reveals that over 91% of Family Health Units experienced three or more IT system outages over the past year, with 15.7% waiting over a day for access restoration and 82.6% reporting shortages of basic supplies such as dressings, medicines, and vaccines. Satisfaction with the eVacinas platform dropped sharply to 43.7% following the rollout of version 2.0 in April 2026.

Wave of self-harm in children alarms the Polícia Judiciária

Online groups are using computer games to lure minors into self-harm and violence against others or animals, with dozens of victims identified in Portugal. The Polícia Judiciária's National Counter-Terrorism Unit is monitoring the online radicalization of children and youth, and an awareness campaign titled 'Online hate kills offline' has been launched to encourage early identification of vulnerable victims.
