Tax discount affecting fuel prices was lower than promised by the Government
The government's ISP tax discount on fuel, which was publicly communicated as approximately three cents per litre, was set at 2.5 cents for diesel and even less for petrol in the official ministerial order. This reflects a smaller reduction than anticipated, contributing to higher prices at the pump as of Monday, September 7, 2026.
Why it mattersIf you drive, fuel prices are higher than they would have been had the government's promised three-cent tax discount been applied in full, as the actual tax reduction provided was lower.
