SNS IT failure: 'practically all services and systems' have been restored

A power outage at the northern data center of the Shared Services of the Ministry of Health (SPMS) caused significant disruptions to SNS health centers and hospitals on Monday, 19 October. By 15:00, most systems were back online. The Ministry plans to implement a new infrastructure by the end of 2026 to improve real-time system reliability and security.

Order considers specialist nurses' monitoring of pregnancy a 'historic step'

A newly published normative dispatch in the Diário da República allows specialist maternal and obstetric nurses in primary healthcare units to oversee low-risk pregnancies from the first visit. Nurses can request diagnostic exams, screenings, vaccinations, supplements, and pregnancy certificates, working alongside family doctors and hospital obstetrics services. The model will be evaluated after 12 months, with the Order of Nurses setting up a monitoring committee to oversee its rollout.
