Portugal will subsidise 15% of obesity medications

The state has established a 15% co-payment for obesity medications. To qualify, patients must be enrolled in a multidisciplinary hospital monitoring program (EMO) at their Local Health Unit (ULS) and receive the prescription from a specialist in endocrinology, internal medicine, or paediatrics.

Why it matters

If you are undergoing treatment for obesity within the SNS, you can now access a 15% subsidy for prescribed medications, provided you are registered in the specific multidisciplinary care pathway (PCIPO) and monitored by your local hospital unit.
