Portugal now has 171 places in temporary centers for foreigners
A new modular wing at the Santo António Temporary Installation Center (CIT) in Porto has opened, adding 80 beds. With this expansion, the national capacity across facilities in Porto, Lisbon, Faro, and Beja has reached 171 places, exceeding the European reference threshold of 102.
Why it matters
This expansion of state capacity for detaining foreign nationals in irregular situations reflects ongoing shifts in national and European migration management policies, potentially increasing the state's processing and enforcement bandwidth.Correio da ManhãRead original ↗
