Passos Coelho warned about the increase in abortions among foreign women in Portugal. Is it really increasing?
A report from the Directorate-General of Health (DGS) shows that the number of voluntary interruptions of pregnancy (IVG) in Portugal has risen steadily since 2022, reaching 18,869 in 2025. Data indicates that women of foreign nationality accounted for 44.2% of these procedures in 2025, with their numbers rising from 4,604 in 2022 to 8,059 in 2025, while the number of procedures among Portuguese women remained relatively stable.
