Porto Metropolitan Area seeks more housing responsibilities and state funding

The Porto Metropolitan Area (AMP) is formally requesting more powers and increased funding from the central government to manage housing, arguing that local authorities can execute projects faster and more efficiently than central agencies in Lisbon. Mayors from the 17 member municipalities expressed a consensus on this strategy during a meeting on 30 October, emphasizing the need for financial resources to handle rising social housing needs, including potential displacement caused by new, expedited eviction legislation currently under discussion in Parliament.
