One month until the Brazilian elections: Everything you need to know about voting in Portugal
The first round of Brazilian presidential elections takes place on 4 October 2026, with polling stations in Lisbon, Porto, and Faro open from 8:00 to 17:00. Voters must have already transferred their electoral title to Portugal to participate, and must present an official photo ID (such as a passport) or the e-Título app to vote. Voting is mandatory for literate Brazilians aged 18 to 70; those unable to vote must justify their absence by 3 December 2026 for the first round, or by 8 January 2027 for a potential second round on 25 October.
Why it mattersIf you are a Brazilian resident in Portugal, you need to check if you successfully transferred your electoral title, as this is the only way to vote for President and Vice-President; failure to vote or justify your absence can lead to electoral penalties that may affect your ability to renew your passport.
