Nine municipalities in three districts at maximum wildfire risk

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has placed nine municipalities at maximum rural wildfire risk today, Friday, September 11, 2026. The affected municipalities are Sardoal, Mação, Gavião, Nisa, Portalegre, Castelo de Vide, Marvão, Monchique, and Portimão.

Why it mattersIf you are in or traveling through these municipalities, wildfire risk is at its highest level today; avoid any activity that could spark a fire and remain alert to local safety instructions.
