How the CGA miscalculated pensions for three thousand people

A software error at the Caixa Geral de Aposentações (CGA) led to incorrect pension calculations for approximately 3,000 retirees who began receiving benefits between January and April 2026. The issue affected individuals who had over 40 years of service, were enrolled in the CGA before 31 August 1993, and had 20 years of service by 31 December 2005. Affected retirees are being asked to repay an average of 93 euros for each month the error persisted between May and August 2026.
