Heavy rain causes 30 incidents in Madeira

Heavy rainfall during the night caused 30 incidents across the island, including mass movements (landslides), flooding, and road obstructions. Funchal, Santa Cruz, and Câmara de Lobos were the most affected municipalities. The orange warning for precipitation in the southern coast and mountainous areas expired at 09:00 on 1 November, with a yellow warning currently in place for the northern part of the island and Porto Santo.

GNR detects 157 drivers over the legal blood alcohol limit during overnight operation

During an enforcement operation on the night of Sunday, 1 November, the GNR stopped 1,056 drivers on the A5 and A28 motorways. Of those, 157 were found to be over the legal alcohol limit, resulting in 32 arrests for drunk driving and two arrests for driving without a license.

Protesters detained in Lisbon to appear in court on Monday

Six protesters detained during the police operation to clear the 'Acampada de Lisboa' early on Sunday, 1 November, have been released under identity and residence measures and are scheduled to appear before a criminal investigation judge at 14:00 on Monday, 2 November, at the Campus de Justiça in Lisbon. Their lawyer intends to file a criminal complaint against the Minister of Internal Administration and the national director of the PSP, alleging abuse of power.

From housing to salaries: November to be marked by a wave of protests in Portugal

Several strikes and demonstrations are scheduled throughout November across Portugal. These include nationwide housing protests on 8 November (Casa para Viver and Porta a Porta), a prison guard strike with no defined end date yet (SNCGP), a public administration strike (Frente Comum), and a CGTP protest in Lisbon on 24 November coinciding with the final vote on the 2027 State Budget.
