Even government support didn't stop the sharp increase: petrol reaches highest price since June 2022
Petrol prices hit 2.031 euros per litre on Monday, September 7, the highest level since June 2022. Diesel reached 2.104 euros per litre. The reduction in ISP tax, which the government had promised would be around 3 cents per litre, resulted in a lower effective discount due to the inclusion of VAT, providing a reduction of 2.5 cents for diesel and less for petrol.
Why it mattersIf you drive, fuel costs are at their highest in over four years, and the actual tax discount you receive at the pump is smaller than the government's initial public announcement implied.
