European study detects dangerous substances in footwear sold on Temu and Shein

A study by the European Footwear Confederation (CEC) analyzed 76 pairs of shoes from Temu, Shein, and AliExpress, finding that 35.5% (27 pairs) violated EU safety regulations. Products contained hazardous chemicals including phthalates, formaldehyde, and heavy metals, with some exceeding legal concentration limits by up to 370 times; additionally, 80% of footwear labeled as personal protective equipment failed safety tests.
