The government has instructed the Climate Agency to define priority areas for the EU Modernization Fund by 31 December, specifically targeting electric vehicle (EV) subsidies for families and small businesses, the decarbonization of heavy goods transport, and reducing natural gas consumption in industry. Minister of Environment and Energy Maria da Graça Carvalho confirmed that the government plans to support the purchase of approximately 20,000 EVs for low-income households with up to 80% funding, as well as providing support for up to 9,000 EVs for micro-enterprises.
Twelve EU nations, including Portugal, have committed to releasing 42.6 million barrels of oil—nearly half of which is diesel—from their strategic reserves by the end of January 2027. This initiative, part of a G7 agreement to stabilize markets, aims to mitigate fuel price volatility as winter approaches, though industry representatives state there is currently no risk of fuel supply shortages in Portugal.
The Braga municipality is launching the 4th edition of its Energy Poverty Combat Program, offering non-repayable grants of up to 2,500 euros per household. Eligible applicants must be residents of Braga (homeowners or tenants) who currently benefit from the social tariff for electricity or natural gas. Applications must be submitted through the BragaHabit Digital Counter between 1 November and 31 December.
