Elderly: new rules on medicine co-payments for CSI beneficiaries

The 100% co-payment is maintained, but new limits are introduced to prevent choosing more expensive drugs when cheaper alternatives exist. The decree-law enters into force on Saturday, 17 October 2026.

If you are a Social Solidarity Supplement (CSI) beneficiary, your 100% medicine co-payment remains, but you may need to choose cheaper generic alternatives when available under the new rules starting on Saturday, 17 October 2026.

Rehabilitation center in Ourém has already received 50 wounded Ukrainian soldiers

The Fénix Rehabilitation Center in Ourém has hosted 50 Ukrainian soldiers for recovery treatment since July 2024. The current group of 10 soldiers and their families arrived on 4 October and will remain until 21 October, the maximum period they are authorized to be outside Ukraine. Starting in January 2027, the center will also offer 40 beds for continuous care to the general Portuguese population.

Out of the incentive-backed positions offered in 2025, 194 vacancies were filled, with one-fifth of those doctors taking on family medicine roles. Meanwhile, nearly half of the total incentive positions remained unallocated.

Vaccination management platform with 'successive failures', nurses' union warns

The nurses' union (ASPE) reports ongoing technical issues with the VACINAS 2.0 system, launched in April for the SNS. Reported problems include the incorrect summoning of already vaccinated patients, potential duplicate vaccinations, difficulty verifying eligibility, and the loss or accumulation of registry errors, forcing staff to repeat administrative tasks.
