Competition can provide electricity savings of up to 40%

The energy regulator ERSE reports that consumers could save between 20% and 40% compared to current billed prices by switching to cheaper electricity providers. The analysis attributes the higher costs paid by smaller domestic consumers to 'consumer inertia' and higher unit costs for smaller consumption volumes. Regulated tariffs for electricity and natural gas are set to be fully phased out by 31 December 2027.
