Civil Protection warns of increased rural fire danger in Madeira starting Sunday
The Regional Civil Protection Service has warned of an elevated rural fire risk in Madeira and Porto Santo from Sunday, September 6, to Wednesday, September 9. The warning is driven by hot, dry weather conditions, lower relative humidity, and strong winds with gusts up to 50 km/h in highland and extreme coastal areas.
Why it mattersIf you are in Madeira or Porto Santo, you must exercise extreme caution as fire danger is heightened through Wednesday; avoid all activities that could generate sparks, such as using machinery in forested areas, and remember that outdoor fires and agricultural burning are strictly prohibited until October 31.
