AIMA nears clearance of immigration backlog, minister says
Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro told parliament that AIMA has reduced its pending regularisation backlog to just 5,000 cases out of an initial 445,000. The agency has also processed 26,000 residence permits for family reunification and 6,000 golden visa cases. Separately, the minister confirmed that Belarusian citizens seeking residence renewals can have expired passports assessed individually to avoid risks associated with returning home.
