Wildfires: More than 70 municipalities at maximum risk
The Portuguese weather institute (IPMA) has placed over 70 municipalities in the North, Centre, and Algarve regions at maximum rural wildfire risk for today, Friday, September 25. An additional 90+ municipalities are currently at very high risk, with high-risk conditions expected to persist in some regions until Tuesday, September 29.
Why it mattersIf you are in one of the affected districts or travelling through them, avoid activities that could spark a fire, as maximum risk conditions mean fires can spread very rapidly.
