Temperatures rising: IPMA extends yellow weather warning to more districts
The IPMA has extended its yellow warning for high temperatures across nine districts—Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Santarém, Lisboa, and Setúbal. While the alert is already active in Coimbra, Leiria, and Lisboa, it will begin for the remaining districts at 09:00 on Sunday, September 20, 2026, with the alert now set to expire for all nine areas at 19:00 on Monday, September 21, 2026.
Why it mattersIf you are in any of these nine districts, expect prolonged heat and a possible heatwave; stay hydrated and avoid strenuous activity during peak sun hours until the warning ends on Monday evening.
