Six active wildfires in the north of the country, with Arouca causing the most concern
Six wildfires are currently active in the North, with the situation in Arouca being the most severe, involving nearly 500 personnel and over 160 vehicles. Another major fire persists in Torre de Moncorvo, while a fire in Santo Tirso has burned over 900 hectares since Monday, 2026-08-17. Several municipal roads in the Arouca area (EM 510, Estrada do Rio, and EM 567) are completely closed to traffic.
