Sheik David Munir agrees with 'burqa law' and says Islam does not require women to cover their faces

The Imam of the Central Mosque of Lisbon stated that he agrees with the recently promulgated law prohibiting face concealment in public spaces, citing security and social integration. He emphasized that covering the face is not a religious requirement in Islam, noting that the hijab remains an alternative, and clarified that the use of the burqa in Portugal is extremely rare.
