Seven municipalities in Bragança, Castelo Branco, and Guarda at maximum rural fire risk

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has placed seven municipalities under maximum risk of rural fire this Thursday, 2026-08-20: Vimioso, Miranda do Douro, Mogadouro, Carrazeda de Ansiães, Trancoso, Sabugal, and Penamacor. Over 100 additional municipalities across the mainland are under 'very high' or 'high' risk levels today.

Why it mattersIf you are in or traveling through these seven municipalities, you are at the highest risk level today; avoid any activity that could spark a fire and follow all local civil protection safety instructions.
