Received a phone call about an IRS declaration? Tax authorities issue alert
The Tax and Customs Authority (AT) has warned of a 'vishing' campaign where scammers impersonate the tax office, calling citizens to claim there is a discrepancy in their IRS (income tax) declaration and asking them to press a key to 'fix' it. Similar fraudulent emails and SMS messages are also circulating, designed to steal personal data.
Why it mattersIf you receive a phone call, email, or SMS claiming to be from the tax office (AT) and asking you to interact with a link or a keypad to 'fix' an IRS discrepancy, do not follow the instructions; it is a scam.
