Public consultation on revised Sophia solar plant project ends today

The promoter of the Sophia solar project in Beira Baixa reduced its planned capacity by a third to 573 MW, spanning over 1,000 hectares across Penamacor and Idanha-a-Nova, with a 22-kilometre power line through Fundão. Public submissions close today, Wednesday 22 October 2026, after drawing over 6,500 filings, with opposition from public figures like Maria João Pires and environmental group Zero.

Parliament approves regulations for registering and publicizing lobbyist meetings

The Assembly of the Republic has approved the regulations for the Transparency Register of Interest Representation (RTRI), requiring that lobbyists and interest representatives register and disclose meetings or interactions with parliamentary bodies and deputies. Nurses recognized with 'historic milestone' in pregnancy care

The government published a decree on Wednesday, 28 October, launching a 12-month pilot project that allows specialist nurses in maternal and obstetric health to monitor low-risk pregnancies in primary care. Starting Thursday, 29 October, these nurses can perform consultations, order diagnostic exams, and manage vaccinations and supplementation to address shortages of family doctors.
