Portugal may need a decade to resolve the housing crisis

A deficit of approximately 300,000 homes has accumulated in Portugal between 2015 and 2025, according to the Bank of Portugal, with some industry estimates placing the shortfall as high as 380,000. While the government committed to delivering 133,000 homes by 2030 through a 10-billion-euro investment plan, experts suggest that at current construction rates, it may take at least a decade to fully close the supply gap, further complicated by a labour shortage of up to 90,000 workers and lengthy licensing processes.
