Porto City Council admits revoking decision that traded houses for money

The Porto executive is reviewing its 'inclusive zoning' rules, which previously allowed developers to pay a fee instead of building affordable housing units. Moedas expresses solidarity with protesters without commenting on police intervention in Lisbon

Beja to get emergency accommodation and support for the homeless

The Estar association announced that the Beja district will launch a structured emergency support and housing service for the homeless starting in November, backed by the Alentejo 2030 regional programme with over 610,000 euros in funding. The three-year 'Viver' project, 85% co-funded by the European Social Fund Plus, will introduce multidisciplinary teams and create an Emergency and Development Residence (REDE) to provide temporary shelter and social support.

Deco calls on parliament to balance the government's urban tenancy bill

Consumer association Deco has urged parliament to amend the government's urban rental reform bill, which was approved generally on 30 September and is currently in committee stage. Deco objects to proposals allowing landlords to demand three months' rent in advance instead of two, removing the deposit cap, reducing the default period for eviction from three months to two, and easing rent updates and old contract transitions without equivalent safeguards for lower-income households.
