Parliament unanimously approves parental leave extension
Parliament has approved an extension of initial parental leave to five months at 100% pay (up from the current four). If parents share the leave—with at least one parent taking 30 consecutive days—the 100% pay period extends to six months. The law is set to enter into force on 1 January 2027.
Why it matters
If you are planning to have a child or are expecting, you will be eligible for longer fully-paid parental leave starting 1 January 2027; however, the new law will not apply retroactively to leave already in progress at that time.ObservadorRead original ↗
