Over three thousand nationality applications based on residency denied in recent weeks
The Ministry of Justice and the IRN reported that over 3,000 residency-based nationality applications received negative preliminary decisions in the last two months. A special task force of 41 staff in Lisbon and Porto has been mobilized since July 1st to clear the backlog, managing to advance processing timelines by approximately four months.
Why it mattersIf you have a pending nationality application, note that preliminary denials are being issued in large numbers; however, these are not necessarily final and can be reversed through the appropriate legal procedures.
