National Federation of Education welcomes increase in education placements, but warns needs are still greater

The first phase of higher education admissions (CNAES) saw 1,302 students placed in Basic Education programs, an 8.6% increase from 2025. Students placed in this first phase have until August 27 to complete their enrollment; applications for the second phase are open from August 24 through September 20.

Why it mattersIf you are a student admitted to a higher education course in the first phase, you must complete your enrollment by August 27 to secure your spot.

Over 2,000 teaching positions remain vacant in schools, but minister guarantees availability of teachers to fill them

With one week remaining before the school year starts, over 2,000 teaching positions are currently unfilled. The Minister of Education stated that the government has enough teachers to cover these needs and noted that daily teacher placements will begin on September 18 to reduce the time students go without a teacher. Additionally, the government has formed a working group to create a 'green channel' for foreign students facing residency regularization delays through AIMA when enrolling in higher education.
